The transfer of Brazilian standout Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning French champions, to Al Hilal, a team situated in Saudi Arabia, has been officially confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday.
"I've accomplished a great deal in Europe and cherished remarkable moments, yet my aspiration has always been to become a global athlete, embracing fresh trials and seizing opportunities in novel locales," remarked Neymar. "My ambition is to etch a new chapter in sporting history, and presently, the Saudi Pro League is brimming with dynamism and boasts a lineup of exceptionally talented players. I've been well-informed and have come to understand that I'm joining the ranks of illustrious Brazilian players who have left their mark in Saudi Arabia throughout the years. Hence, I'm convinced this is the optimal destination." "Al Hilal stands as a monumental club, with a fervent fan base and unrivaled prominence in Asia. This imbues me with a sense of certainty that this decision is aptly timed and aligned with the perfect club choice. My passion for triumph and goal-scoring endures, and I intend to sustain these pursuits in Saudi Arabia, under the banner of Al Hilal." Neymar is set to join forces with his fresh cohorts Kalidou Koulibaly, Rúben Neves, and Sergej Milinković-Savić, all of whom embarked on their journeys with Al Hilal earlier this summer. As part of Saudi Arabia's "Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project," Al Hilal finds itself among a quartet of clubs, including Al Nassr, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad, which came under the stewardship of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund in June. Rumors abound that Neymar has been presented with a two-year contract, featuring an estimated yearly wage of approximately $100 million—a sum that would amount to approximately half of Cristiano Ronaldo's purported earnings at Al Nassr. Fahad bin Saad bin Nafel, Chairman of Al Hilal, affirmed, "Neymar Jr is a global luminary who has consistently brought joy and elation to admirers wherever his path has led. The spotlight perpetually shines on him, and he consistently responds to its glow. We are elated to welcome him to Al-Hilal, an emblem of triumph in the Asian domain." Neymar, aged 31, became affiliated with PSG in 2017 when Qatar Sports Investments, the club's proprietors, executed a then-world-record transfer fee of €222 million to lure him away from Barcelona. His tenure with the Parisian outfit saw him amass an impressive tally of 118 goals across 173 appearances, and his contributions translated into a multitude of honors, encompassing five Ligue 1 titles. However, as PSG's UEFA Champions League quest remained unfulfilled, Neymar increasingly became the focal point of fans' grievances. PSG President and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaïfi remarked, "Bidding farewell to a remarkable player like Neymar, one of the finest talents globally, is never an easy task. His arrival at Paris Saint-Germain remains etched in memory, and his contributions to our Club and our mission over the past six years have been significant. Neymar's presence will forever be intertwined with our history. Our gratitude extends to Neymar and his family. We extend our heartiest wishes to Neymar for his future endeavors and upcoming adventures."
